Location Ideas

As we are producing a trailer, the location can be very varied and flexible as we’re not restricted to a linear plot. Therefore we can jump from location to location as a part of our trailer. We believe that including multiple locations will help to draw in a bigger audience because people will feel like the film will be more intrinsic and complex rather than boring.

From looking at trailers like Pulp Fiction and The Sixth Sense, a lot of the locations have a similar theme like in a police station, Pulp Fiction, and in weirdly made up rooms, The Sixth Sense. The group and I have attempted to make the settings of our drama/action in as many genre specific locations as possible.

Option 1:

Downhall

This is a hotel located nearby the group that is easily accessible. As we want to shoot the film in a high quality setting certainly for the boss’s headquarter, it is perfect for lighting, formality with beautiful scenery in the background. One problem with this location is that they do functions after functions meaning that it would be very busy with filming so it would be hard to film without getting any people in the shot.

Option 2:

Quendon Hall

Again this hotel is very close to the group, Quendon Hall is a beautiful hotel with Greenland all around it. It looked much older than Downhall but it gave the hotel a historical feel as It was make from rocky stone. In the middle of the hotel gardens is a waterfall showing how sophisticated the agency was where the Boss and Hitman worked. However, again like Downhall the hotel is very busy and it would be difficult to find a date when there is no event going on and out of school hours.

Final Locations:

A house:

We decided to use a house for one of our locations because we need to have a party scene in a small room of a house. Therefore, we needed a house to host a party. We also needed a house to film the scene between The Boss and The Hitman when they are discussing the target, The Victim. This meant that we needed a table and chairs so that this conversation could occur. By using a house, it helps the audience to understand the storyline better because some of the trailer takes place in a house, which is a location most people are familiar with.

Jackson Square Shopping Centre:

We decided to film in a shopping centre to show the audience that The Victim is being watched. By filming this character in a public space, it shows the audience that the other characters, The Boss and The Hitman, have authority and power over The Victim because they can access footage of her from a private account. The shopping centre can also make the audience feel on edge because The Victim is being watched everywhere, which makes the film engaging and can encourage them to watch the film to find out what happens. Using a shopping centre also makes it easier for the audience to follow the storyline because like the house, most people are familiar with this setting.

Town Park:

We decided to use the town park for one of our locations because we needed a bench for The Hitman and The Victim to have a conversation. Using a public space could make the audience feel on edge because the audience would want member of public to help Alexandra as the audience know the reason why Max is talking to her.

Hong Kong:

We decided to use this location because Hong Kong is known for its money and wealth. Therefore, it would make sentence that the client comes to Hong Kong as it’s known as an economic capital. Using Hong Kong highlights to the audience that the client is very wealthy and has a luxurious life-style. This usual location makes the life-style of the client desirable to the audience because they can afford to stay in Hong Kong.

Café:

We decided to use a café because it allows the characters a chance to sit down and talk. This makes it easier for the audience to understand what is happening because the characters are judging sitting down and talking. Therefore, the audience can find out more information about what is happening, which keeps them engaged because they want to find out what is going to happen.

Locations are really important as they help to set the scene for the audience. The location also allows the audience to understand when and where the film is set so that they understand the context of the film. Having different locations can also show the audience how the a storyline progresses from one part to another ands this can make the storyline easier to follow.

A house:

We decided to use a house for one of our locations because we need to have a part scene. Therefore, we needed a house to host a party. We also needed a house to film the scene between Jane and Max when they are discussing the target, Alexandra. This meant that we needed a table and chairs so that this conversation could occur. By using a house, it helps the audience to understand the storyline better because some of the trailer takes place in a house, which is a location most people are familiar with.

We decided we needed to use an office because we needed a location where Jane could tell Max about what she needs him to do. By using a formal location like an office allows Jane to be represented as having lots of authority because she can take control of the conversation. Furthermore, the office gives the characters a private space to discuss the plan because it needs to be kept a secret.

We decided to film in a shopping centre to show the audience that Alexandra is being watched. By filming this character in a public space, it shows the audience that the other characters, Jane and Max, have authority and power over Alexandra because they can access footage of her. The shopping centre can also make the audience feel on edge because Alexandra is being watched everywhere, which makes the film engaging and can encourage them to watch the film to find out what happens.
